CJ Smith, the newest member of the band talks about his experience as a drummer and how he became part of the Merchants of Midnight....
I joined a hard rock band in San Diego, where I was born and raised in 2006 and played 100's of shows with them from 2006 to 2011. Influences like Led Zeppelin, Tool, Deftones, Primus as well as more metal bands such as Lamb of God.
One show I'll never forget was at a fairly large venue right next to the beach in San Diego. We were playing two covers, Disturbed - voices and Drowning Pool - Bodies. I tore a huge whole right through the snare drum and had to turn it upside down and play on the bottom head, not a fun experience to say the least.
I recently moved to Colorado for a job offer and immediate took to Craigslist to find people to play music with. One of the first or second postings was from Merchants of Midnight. I texted Matt because they seemed like all around great people and musicians and we met to see if I was the right fit. After the first audition we knew I would be drumming for them. It felt right and with Royce's singing and Matt's guitar work, I knew this could be huge. They both have an astounding amount of talent and I'm really looking forward to the future of this band. Big things are coming, big things.
